Touch me not plant

Sensitive plant, (Mimosa pudica), also called humble plant, in pea family (Fabaceae).

It responds to touch and other stimulation by rapidly closing its leaves and drooping (hanging, weak).

When touched, this sensitive leaf reacts to stimulus, as there is a higher pressure at that point, and the water in the vacuoles of the cells of the leaf lose water to the adjacent cell.

All the water escapes the leaf (via the pulvinus) which then becomes flaccid (weak). This causes the leaves to close.

It majorly possesses antibacterial, antivenom, antifertility, anticonvulsant antidepressant, aphrodisiac, and various other pharmacological activities.

The herb has been used traditionally for ages, in the treatment of urogenital disorders, piles, dysentery, sinus, and also applied on wounds.

Mimosa Pudica, plants are actually sensitive to physical parameters like touch, temperature, and light.

Which means the plants fold and shrink their leaves and even look like they are dead when someone touches them or when there is a sudden variation in temperature or light.

Touch me not plant.
